Since 1954 Christ’s Haven has provided a warm, loving, Christian environment in which children in need of basic care can grow physically, emotionally, and spiritually to become productive citizens in society. We also help facilitate positive relationships through our mentorship program. By becoming a mentor you can impact a child’s life today and transform their potential for tomorrow. Every child deserves quality one on one time and the opportunity to develop meaningful friendships with positive adult role models they can trust. The options for activities are unlimited. Play a board game, make fun crafts, hit the playground together and more. Children ages 2-18 are ready to have a mentor and Christ’s Haven staff is ready to help you get started!
Guidelines and Process
We do ask that you commit to spending 1 year (minimum) in the program. This allows the mentors and mentees to build meaningful relationships while also providing a sense of stability.
Step 1: Request an application from firstname.lastname@example.org He will send you the info you need to get started.
Step 2: Complete and return the required paperwork (Application, Background Check, and Fingerprint Verification)
Step 3: The makings of mutually beneficial mentor-mentee relationships are important to us; therefore thoughtful consideration is given to match a potential mentor to a child. After committing to be a mentor, you are matched with a Christ Haven child based upon a number of criteria that will be discussed with you at that time.
Step 4: Following your application approval, you will meet your child and also get to know your house parent. The child’s houseparents are a critical part of the mentor-mentee relationship. Ensuring alignment and making sure the houseparents and mentors are on the same page will only lend to a successful relationship. You can spend the first six months getting to know your mentee right here on the Christ’s Haven Campus. The children love to show off their home and are always excited to give tours of the campus. We also have playgrounds and outdoor areas to enjoy. Only on campus activities are allowed during the first six months.
Step 5: At the end of the six-month period a home study, which includes a home inspection and interview with your family, will be scheduled. This step is necessary in order to become more familiar with you and your family, as well as ensure the safety of Christ’s Haven kids. This will then allow you to gain approval for off campus day trips/activities.
Step 6: Maintain a successful relationship by contacting your mentee at least 1 time per week and visiting or planning an activity up to and no more than 2 times per month.
