Trauma-Informed & Family Model of Care are terms we use all the time. But sometimes it’s good to go back to the basics to help understand what they mean:
Trauma-Informed Model – The children & teens at Christ’s Haven come to us with trauma. Whether that is from abuse, neglect, or loss, they all experienced trauma. We meet them where they are and apply six guiding principles to their care: safety, trustworthiness/transparency, peer support, collaboration, empowerment, and humility/responsiveness.
Family Model – It is a common misconception that we are an orphanage or that our kids are institutionalized. We operate on a 58-acre campus with 12 different homes. Much like a typical neighborhood. Our homes have a married couple who serve as Houseparents, and they care for up to eight children or teens operating much like a typical family.
If you or someone you know has questions about placing a child in our care, please reach out to our Intake Coordinator, Jaimee Kraft, firstname.lastname@example.org.
