Volunteer OpportunitiesVolunteer Opportunities
- Bearly Used Resale Shop in Keller benefits the children at Christ's Haven. We are blessed with an abundance of donations from the community and we welcome extra hands to sort, price, and process donations such as clothes, household items, books, toys, videos, furniture and other items. Please submit a Volunteer Application and call either Bonnie or Carla at (817) 431-5718 any time during store hours, Mon.-Sat. 10 am - 6 pm. They can work with you to schedule a convenient time. Volunteers must be 17 years of age or older unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- If clerical work is your forte', please consider helping us in our office. Submit a Volunteer Application. There is always paperwork and small tasks available. These are usually very easy and can be worked into your schedule. Each applicant age 14 years or older may be required to complete a background check.
- Host an "Hour of Prayer". As a Christian organization, we believe in the power of prayer and covet your prayers for our children, the house parents, and God's blessings and will in our lives. Please click here to see our Prayer Needs list and for more information, and download a Volunteer Application if interested.
- The Spring Workday will be scheduled for a Saturday in April, 2011, from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers help by pulling weeds, planting flowers, washing vans, washing windows, picking up trash in and around the property, and other jobs that are needed to "spruce up the campus." We also have a Fall Workday scheduled for Saturday, September 11th, 2010 from 9 a.m. until noon. Please submit a Volunteer Application if you would like to be a part of a workday event. *Please register early. Volunteer capacity is 200 for this event. More details are located in the "events" area of our website.
- Our 18th Annual Charity Golf Classic in Memory of Byron Nelson will take place in May, 2011. Location TBD. We need a team of volunteers before the tournament to help in seeking sponsors and players for this fund-raising event. We need volunteers the day of the tournament to make things flow. This is a lot of fun! Please submit a Volunteer Application if you would like to be a part of this event. We also invite you and your colleagues to join in the support of our children by sponsoring or playing in the tournament.
- Individuals, Families, or groups who would like to provide a Campus Workday Service Project should submit a Service Project Application at least 30 days prior to requested service date. Please be aware that many projects may require funding from the volunteer group. All applications are reviewed by our Director of Facilities. Once a workday project is approved, you will be contacted. Please see application for requirements and details. You may request a CHFC project "Wishlist" at leeanne@christshaven.org. - An annual event at Christ's Haven is Open House, scheduled for September 25th, 2010. Volunteers are needed to direct traffic, set up and clean up and general help. Please submit a Volunteer Application and let us know if you are available for this event on our campus. Please see details under events.
- We will host our 2nd Annual "Home for the Holidays" a Ladies Occasion Out, on Saturday, November 13th, 2010. This is an amazing day of fellowship and fun! We are currently registering Hostesses for this event. Space is limited. If you are gifted with the talent of organization and would like to help in any aspect of this type event, please call. Support our CHILDREN by being an event sponsor or donor of an auction item. Please submit a Volunteer Application if you would like to be a part of this event. - Be a CHFC Christmas Angel. Many of the children at Christ's Haven have never experienced a traditional Christmas morning. Santa seldom finds his way down their chimney with new toys and clothes. Being a Christ's Haven Christmas Angel allows you, your family, or group an opportunity to provide the magic of Christmas for the children in our care. Contact Therez Ephraim @ therez@christshaven.org for information. Please submit a Christmas Angel Application to be a part of Christmas at Christ's Haven. Applications are accepted through December 6th. Each applicant age 14 years or older may be required to complete a background check.
- Haven's Horses therapeutic riding program needs volunteers year round, ages 12 and older. Volunteers and required to commit to 3 months of service, attending therapeutic riding classes weekly or biweekly. Specialized training is required before volunteering but no previous horse experience is required. - With safety issues and regulations, there are specific opportunities to work directly with the children. Individuals or groups who desire to work directly with our children can do one of the following:
- Saturday Spectacular is offered during the school year. This program is usually held on the first Saturday of each month during the school year. Organizations, scout groups, civic groups, clubs, families, and individuals should submit a Saturday Spectacular Application to participate. You will need to provide an activity, craft, or learning experience. The children travel from activity to activity for one hour. You may also sign up to provide lunch. Space is limited.
- Request an application to provide Summer Recreation Activities. Summer Recreation Applications are available and accepted February 1st through April 15th for the upcoming summer season-(June, July, and August). Applications are reviewed in the order they are received. Once approved, applicants are placed based on the availability of our children, date requested, and activity provided. Placement begins on May 1st. You will be notified of placement on or before May 15th. Due to the considerations mentioned, placement of every group is not possible. Each applicant age 14 years or older is required to complete a background check.
- Submit a Volunteer Application stating a specific area in which you might be of service. Example: voice lessons, piano lessons, classes on sewing or cooking, tutoring, etc... These applications are reviewed on a regular basis and you will be contacted when a specific need arises. The Director of Children's Services will talk with you about your desires and talents and schedule times when you could help with the particular need. Each applicant age 14 years or older is required to complete a background check.
